We've just finished writing personal narratives, sharing experiences from our lives that carry weight and have meaning. Now we are transitioning to analysis writing, using Sandra Cisneros's essay "Eleven" as the text.

The symbol in the passage is the teacher, despite it looking like it would be the sweater. The teacher represents all of the stress and struggles of growing up, and how you aren’t able to cope with them right away

-The symbol in the short story, "Eleven" by Sandra Cisneros, is the red sweater. The sweater symbolizes not only Rachel's shame at being accused, but also the control Mrs. Price has over her. Although Rachel tries to move the sweater away from her, she cannot escape it (she obliges when Mrs. Price demands that she puts it on). As such, when she's wearing it, the sweater serves as a representation of Rachel's powerlessness against Mrs. Price's demands.

The symbol in the passage "Eleven" is the red sweater. It symbolizes the power that her teacher has over. Towards the end of the passage the teacher makes Rachel put the sweater on which she didn't have to do. Of course Rachel did, because she didn't want to get in any more trouble then she already was. The teacher didn't even try to listen to her when Rachel said it wasn't her sweater.

The red sweater in the story is the symbol, meant to represent Rachel's negative internal feelings. Throughout the passage, she is very distraught and upset but unable to express it, the same way she is unable to explain to her teacher that she doesn't own the sweater.

The symbol in the passage is age. Age is constantly being brought up or represented throughout the passage; with the teacher and how she has authority and a type of power over Rachel because she is older. And second, Rachel repeatedly mentions how as you get older, you don't always feel/act like the age you are.
