Taming of the Shrew and Gender Equality: The Argument

Our play has some very interesting (and sometimes disturbing) things to say about relationships between men and women, the power dynamic between the two, and the
need for men in Shakespeare's day to make a woman "submit."

Think about those same power dynamics at play today.

Do you think social media, entertainment, and music work to diminish the power and sense of agency in women or do they work to empower women?

Please use a specific example to support your response.

I believe that social media and entertainment has been working to empower women recently. There have been significantly more women working in charge of producing films and music. There has been a 8% increase in women directors since 2018.

I think that social media, entertainment, and music have all worked to empower women because more women use social media than men. Women use social media to be social and communicate with friends and make their voices be heard. Also, the number of women that produce music has increased over the last couple of years. From 2012 to 2017, 12% of songwriters of the 600 most popular songs were women.

I think that social media and other types of entertainment do work to empower women. When I go on social media nowadays, I tend to see a lot of women related posts, mostly positive. Also on social media, I see a lot of women trying to make their voices heard by saying things that attract a lot of attention, like women getting beating by their aggressive boyfriends and stuff like that.

I believe so media has lately been empowering women. On Instagram, I've seen whole pages dedicated to women supporting other women businesses or outfits.

I think that social media, entertainment, and music have worked to empower women in many ways. For example, 20% of directors in the entertainment business are females while only a few years ago, only 16% were females.

I believe social, entertainment, etc... work to empower women because it gives them a platform to speak their mind and let the world know what's on their minds. They are also empowered by giving them confidence when they post a picture

I do think that social media, entertainment, and music work to diminish the power and sense of agency because of the exposure to the media and the support they can get from other because of awareness for example women protesting about their rights or another cause.

I believe that social networking has worked to empower women nowadays. With the recent rise of feminism and the meetoo movement, there are some strong forces acting in favor of strong independent women. Music made by artists such as Lizzo serves to bring a positive light to women of all types.

I think social media has worked because it lets the people know what they are saying on whats on on their mind. and with everything else it encourage other women to do the same thing

I think media, entertainment, and music work to diminish women power because in music, for example, “12.3 percent of songwriters of the 600 most popular songs of the last six years were women, while 2 percent of producers across 300 songs were female. For producers, this translates into a gender ratio of 49 males to every female,” according to USC News.

The entertainment industry has been working to empower women. This is because there have been many more women directing films and television shows. Also, there are many more powerful lead roles in such forms of media. This can be seen in the movie, Wonder Woman.

I think media, entertainment, and track paintings to diminish women power because in track, for example, “12.3 percentage of songwriters of the six hundred most popular songs of the closing six years were women, whilst 2 percent of manufacturers throughout 300 songs had been female. For manufacturers, this interprets right into a gender ratio of 49 men to each female,” in line with USC News.

I think that it does both but more good than bad because women have had leads and important roles in movies, books and many other things.

Yes I do think Social Media diminishes women but I also think women let it happen to themselves. When women post pictures of themselves half naked and get mad when people say things about it, they put it upon themselves. I'm not saying that women shouldn't post what they want but they have to except the fact that people will think and say what they want.

I think that the entertainment industry, and by extension, social media, work to empower women to a degree that they deem acceptable. Women are allowed to be powerful, as long as they're not intimidating or domineering. This is perfectly exemplified by the recent Oscars' snub of Greta Gerwig, leaving the entire Best Director's category to male directors. This is a common practice, and women are often left behind in the mainstream.

no i don't think these tings deals with the power of women i think it only matter what the women do or show this kind of power

I think it does because the women has leads and important roles for her

Whether positive or negative social and general media have made an enormous impact on the economy we live in today. From influential roles in society, to iconic roles in movies.

I think that it goes both way but mainly diminishes. In many ways social media and entertainment is diminishing the power in women, like when men and other s post lewd comments on a woman post, making her seen as only and object for their sexual pleasure. The highly addictive franchise of all the Bachelor shows are also a example. The show where the men see women as objects that need to chosen and they're all falling for him diminishes a woman's power. On the other hand, in recent years woman have been using social media to empower themselves and spread positive to other about their self-esteem.

i think it empowers women because women keep getting the confidence to start doing music or join social media. they gain money on their own and gain followers that support them. for example when usually only guys rap but then women start rapping too.

Social Media, entertainment, and music empower women in all aspects of life. One example of women being empowered by social media is the #MeToo movement, which would never have worked if women did not feel inspired to share their stories

I believe social media, entertainment and music work to empower women. This is because many women can express themselves or express messages of feminism, or even the me too movement. Also social media, and other things don't place limits based on any gender therefore they do help empower women.

I believe that it varies from each source. While some artists work to empower women, such as Lizzo, other corporations work against them, especially large agencies that want to control the physical appeal of women and models in the spotlight.

I believe that social media, entertainment, and music work has empowered women overtime. For example there has been in increase in movies with women as the main character. But it could also diminish women because audiences could have a negative opinion on those movies if they are not made well.

I believe that Today social media and etc have been working towards empowering women, especially in women's power. We have tons of empowering protests that start to get rallied off from social media and other women encouraging each other even men too. Social media is also used to reach out to political leaders who read people's stories and try to help celebrities every day normal people are trying to help encourage women power.

This day and age social media has been empowering women and also that the fact women are on it more than men plays in big role in that. Women express themselves especially with the #MeTOOMovement and things like that. Social media gave them the confidence and ability to share personal information and deep things that has been going on with them.

I think that social media, entertainment, and music all work to empower women more than ever. For example, they are giving women more star roles in movies and giving more women director roles. And yet it's still not where it needs to be. As in saying they still don't get equal recognition as the men do.

I think that social media and other types of entertainment do work to empower woman because on my timeline on instagram theres more womans that relate to things that had happened to other people. Also, womans be wanting more attention than mans,so they post things to let other people hear their problems and sometimes on how their boyfriends beat them.

I believe that the entertainment industry empowers women today. In Avengers End Game, they had a whole scene where it was an all-female cast defeating a big enemy. This shows how women are empowered today in big entertainment today.

I believe social media empowers and also brings down women. Thee are influencers and accounts that focus on bringing down women. But there are also hate comments and a accounts that show what the "perfect woman is" and that influences young and older girls to change the self to fit in the image of the "pretty girl".

-There are many aspects of contemporary society that have continually excluded women from the benefits that men have. One of the most profound examples of this is the gender wage gap, which still separates women and men apart based on base income pay. However, I believe social media is at least attempting to make a considerable comeback to advocate for women's rights. Prominent campaigns such as the #MeToo movement are perfect epitomes of this, seeking to expand opportunities in a variety of sectors of media and entertainment. However, this does not mean that all women, in general, have received the aid they need to fight back -- society has continually favored one gender over the other, especially in areas such as a male-dominated movie industry.

social media had been empowering women because women had started to make a stand for their self and made money off what they had became and outta all of their hard work they have came from in the past. women are in the mist of helping each other to better their self and show each other how to work as a independent instead of trying to always rely on others.
