Odysseus fights physical battles, slaying the Cyclops was one such battle we read about this week. It is easy to get caught up in the theatrics of the epic: monsters and seductresses, strange lands and customs.
For a moment, let's think about some ideas or concepts might be running underneath these fantastic creatures and events. Why is Odysseus going through such things? What are the psychological and spiritual elements of both reckoning and potential growth?

I think he did it to show that he can win any battle and so he could go home to Ithaca and to show that he is a hero and he can defeat anybody or anything.
Odyessus is going through these challenges so that he learns and grows from them and so he can become a better person by them time that he goes back home to Ithica. Its similar to what we go through on a daily basis the challenges we go through on a daily basis that make us better people at the end of the day.

The physical battles could be a way to show Odysseus's strength and to prove to himself and/ or the gods that he is worthy of the trip back home. After all, the fights he goes through are because of the places he arrives at while trying to get home.

Odysseys is going through such things because the gods want him to learn from his mistakes and grow as a better person. Some psychological and spiritual elements of growth is when he tried to get back to his family and reckoning is when he slept with another woman.

I think that every problem that Odysseus goes through makes his journey even more epic and adventure full and when he is put through such dangerous situations and get through them, he becomes more of man than he already is.

I think Odyessus do all those things for show that he can win anything and he could go home in Ithaca and show that he can do any challenges and be a hero for the people in Ithaca or they can think that odysseus can protect them from anything.

I think that Odysseus goes through all that he does because the Gods want him to suffer do to all the mistakes that he has done, and not giving them the praise that they deserve. It is like when people do bad things, they are punished for by authority, and people do good things people think that they are self-centered if they don't give credit to other people.

Odysseus has gone through all these challenges because of the gods mostly posiden. The gods want him to learn from his mistakes. He grew when he was finally going to back to his family

The Cyclops can represent the obstacles somebody can go through in an average day. And Odysseus uses his problem solving skills to overcome this obstacle, just like how we use our problem solving skills to overcome our everyday obstacles. It also shows how teamwork can help overcome obstacles. Even though the Cyclops was huge, Odysseus and his men found a way to defeat him using teamwork.

Odysseus goes through such great lengths because he is a hero that yearns for adventure. He enjoys the danger and because of that he keeps going towards it. He doesn’t grow while on the adventures, it’s only after them that he grows spiritually.

Odysseus is going through these events because the Gods want him to learn that he can’t do everything and he needs to respect them just like everyone else does. Some psychological and spiritual elements of growth are when he finally went back to his family and reckoning is when he was with Calypso for seven years and he slept with her.

Odysseus is an adventurer who craves thrill and lives for danger. He is willing to struggle in order to feel adrenaline. He wants to learn from his adventures and become a better man.
These challenges that Odysseus are facing resemble many challenges that they (and we) deal with and overcome.

Odysseus is going through these challenges so that he learns and grows to understand that his hubris is something he needs to get rid of.

This represents that you have to play your obstacle in life by ear and be smart to overcome them one way or another.

Odysseus Thinks that he can fight all of his battles and win. As he continues to wins his ego gets bigger and bigger and he has an idea of himself as "The man". He thinks he so strong and powerful and doesn't think for his consequences.
Odysseus is going through so much because he has too much pride and thinks he can do anything by himself. But in reality, he really can't and always forget to thank the gods for helping him. If Odysseus thanked the gods, he would've gotten home quicker and see his wife and "new born" son, even though he's now a young adult.

The obstacles that Odysseus faces in this epic are there to teach Odysseus that life is hard therefore he should be grateful that the gods help him succeed.
Odysseus is going through battles and challenges to prove his worth and earn his right to be called a hero.

Odysseus is going through these struggles to grow and become a better person. During these trials he doesn't grow spiritually he grows after. This proves him to be a hero.

Odysseus is going through so much epic things and his also has a lot of pride,he thinks his better than everyone, but in reality he is not capable of doing things for himself... if Odysseus took one minute to thanked the gods his journey home would of been safe.
The obstacles odysseus faces in the epic shows how he struggles to get home and be the hero that he wants to be.

Odysseus is going through a lot because of all the things hes putting on his shoulders only because he thinks he can do everything by himself without asking for help and will succeed doing it. But that's not really how it is and hes not appreciative of what the gods are doing for him and if he was thankful he could've gotten home quicker.

Odysseus is going through a lot because he's throwing a lot of problems on his shoulders and is trying to solve all of them so that he can become a "better" person. Odysseus's pride could've caused him to never see his family ever again. The lesson learned from this is that there is a difference between having confidence and having pride.

Odysseus goes through so much because he needs to learn from his mistakes and understand that he can't do everything on his own, on top of that he is naturally adventurous. He needs to respect the gods and we can see growth when he returns home and reckoning during his struggles.
Odysseus needs to grow in order to be a hero. If he started off the story already grown then there would be no conflict or story. He is struggling

Odysseus is going through these challenges because the gods are upset with him. He continuously mocking them and he doesn't thank them for helping him. For this reason, they put him through challenges and bad situations to teach him to be thankful and respect.

Odysseus is only going through these obstacles because he lets his pride get the better of him, he does not appreciate at all what the gods do for him or what anyone else does for him. He thinks he can do everything on his own and that he is a hero, but that is not the case if he was much more humble, he would have gotten home quicker and wouldn't have gotten stuck in different places all those years.

-Odysseus must endure numerous hard trials and tribulations because he has offended the gods, Poseidon, in particular. Following Odysseus' victory in the Trojan War, he allowed his hubris to overcome him, neglecting Poseidon's divine aid in the Trojan Horse scheme. As such, Poseidon purposely made Odysseus' voyage home as excruciating as possible to teach the warrior to respect the gods' will.
Poseidon's rage intensifies following Odysseus' altercation with Polyphemus.Polyphemus begs Poseidon to avenge him, prompting more violent adventures for Odysseus until he either a.) learns from his mistakes and apologizes for his offenses (or) b.) dies. After Zeus intervenes and allows Odysseus to escape Ogygia, Odysseus continues to face hardships to test his moral character. The gods are trying to determine whether or not Odysseus is genuinely worthy of returning to Ithaca.

Odysseus goes through all of his battles, both internal and external, as a punishment or reckoning for his crimes of hubris and pride against the gods. This constant defeat or attempts to defeat him wear on him, eventually leaving him a broken and desolate man. He ignores opportunities to grow, like when he taunts Polyphemus, and consistently places his alleged honor over the lives and well-being of his crew. These choices lead to more punishment and the vicious cycle continues until Odysseus finally arrives home, a very changed man.
Christine Slaughter Period 7
Odysseus is facing such battles because of his pride and therefore might grow to understand his need to not solely attribute his successes to himself.

Odysseus is going through these things in order to grow as a person and to potentially become a better one in general. There will be a lesson he will learn from moments like these during his adventure home.
Odysseus goes through all that he does because the Gods want him to suffer do to all the mistakes Myles Armstead pd 6
Odysseus goes through all the battles in life to challenge himself .
When he challenges himself he proves that he can be fearless and strong .He works on his mistakes too , if he fails on a challenge he wont give up and re do what he did wrong
Odysseus goes the physical battles so he could go home to itcha and show his people that he is a warrior and would defeat anyone in his path.
